Advice-hSis beehreccived from Memphis, Tennessee, U.S.A., that the town of Marion, in Arkansas, is on the verge of a race war. owing to the high feeling among the whites and the negroes. The authorities at Marion have requested the police to get aid from Memphis in order to enable them to hold the gathering mobs in check. Yesterday evening two negroes named Charlie Richardson and Bob Austin were taken out of gaol by a mob of insurgents and dragged through the streets of the town, with ropes round their necks.. _STo attempt was made to kill the men, but the moving spirits in the movement declared it hat they would be lynched:; the following 1 -■day. . ■ /- ■ v *■ ■ This morning • Richardson and Austttiiwere lynched by a mob of 50 men. Shortly before the ropes were placed .on theirnecks the unfortunate men confessd that there had been gaol-breaking recentlv among the prisoners in ' the Marion lockup, many of whom had escaped. Among those who got away was a man named Ferguson, a wealthy citizen, who' was awaiting his trial on a charge of murder. He has not yet been recaptured. •*.. ,
