ARRIVAL AT WANGANUI

Thq Australian XI. arrived by the morning train from Palmerston North, and were met at the station by the officials of the local association. They were then driven to the Borough Council Chambers whore—in the unavoidable absence of the Mayor—they were welcomed by Senior-Councillor Lilli ton. Mr. Liffiton said;lie was pleased to welcome the team to Wanganui not only as cricketers but also as,brothers iu the Empire under the one flag. (Applause.) He recalled his early experiences in cricket in Wanganui particularly a game against the Royal Irish Regiment, played on a bare paddock of Virgin soil. He was afraid the visitors would find the wicket none too good as it contained Australian soil, which didn’t seem to blend with New Zealand (laughter). - .
