EMBEZZLES £20,000. Press association—Telegraph.—Copyright; PARIS, March 12. .Duez has confessed to embezzling £20,000 when he was a solicitor’s clerk. He has since lost £25,000 on the Stock Exchange. The police raided the house of Duez’s mistress and discovered ‘ £BOOO worth of jewellery, various shares and bank accounts. They are also searching the house of a wpman to whom Duez arranged to ad-, vance £12,000.
WHOLESALE BRIBERY
Another Arrest. '. Eeceived March 14, 8.45 a.m. PAEIS, March 13. The examining Magistrate who has charge of the Dues case discovered that 150 persons belonging to the political world and press were bribed under a false name by Duez. The latter refused to disclose the names, Martin, formerly his assistant, has been arrested on a charge of complicity in the liquidation scandals.
