BILLIARDS.
There was a very large attendance of billiard enthusiasts (including a fair sprinkling of ladies) at the Norfolk Bil--Hard Parlour last evening to witness the exhibition match between Fred Lindrum, junr., champion of Australia, and George Gray, holder of the world's record break of; §36, The contest was 750 lip, and a splendid exposition of the game was given by the two youthful -cueists! Lhidrum conceded his opponent, who opened the proceedings with playing in baulk, 50 start. ’ Lindrum, also played fqr, safety, hut Grey followed with a break of 54, which 'guv? Him a very considerable lead of his opponent. Lindrum followed with 32, and alter two non-scoring efforts Gray compiled 76. After tipis, scoring livened -up, both youths, especially Lindrum, giving asplendid exhibition of; all-round play. Gray made many gallant, efforts to retrieve his ■ position, but Lindrum (wbo played the more consistent game,’after scoring several big breaks, including one of 287, ran out in an unfinished break of 111, amidst great applause. The following were the scores: —Gray, safe miss, 0, 54, 0, 0, 76. 11 14 0,12, 0. 0, 0; 18, 30, 44, 19, 0, 2; total’ 330, with 50 handicap. Lindrum, 0, 32’ 10, 0, 9, 0, 0, 9, 17, 39, 62, 7;5, 0, 36, 287, 64, 0, .and 111 unfinished; total, 751’ After Hi!' match Messrs Grey and Lindrum gave exhibitions, of fancy shots/ which created the utmost enthusiasm amongst the onlookers. /General, expressions of, Approval were made oh all sides in regard to the arrangements by the management. Fred Lindrum. junr., informed a Herald representative'that he had never seen such a. splendid billiard parlour in all his travels as the. Norfolk -Chambers, which he, considered almost perfect in every deT'lere were larger billiard-rooms in Australia., -hut not one so admirably lighted and furnished. The room >vas perfectly lighted, while all the tables were first-class, the. match table- on , which he played last night,' and which was manufactuhe.d " b 7 Messrs Heiron and Smith, the, well-known Sydney firm, being eqhal to the very best in the! Dominion and a credit to the makers, who have no superiors in this line.
