Another member, who appears to have hot'!) patriotic but cautious, nnved that the matter he referred to a committee. The proposal was thrown out with emphasis by 13 to fi, and so the t-tudents will continue to be examined in certain subjects by men 14.000 miles away. The ••Id practice resulted in benefit during the time when competent men were scarce in New 'Zealand. Hut competent New Zealand examiners are scarce no longer; in fact, in Mime subjects New Zealand examiners are already appointed. Why they should not he appointed in all remains a puzzle. It is desirable that the University should remain in touch t with the latest methods of Old World edncafiofl, hut that can )><■ effected through other men lhan examiners. We hope the 'good Xew Zealarders who initiated the jpropotial will k, c]i Ibc ball rolling.
