THE FIELDING CLUB.
In the opinion of one or two at loa3t of lLs raembe*d the Feilding Athletic Club is doomed. Some vear3 ago the Feilding Club was the jiiost successful of its kind on the coast, and its, gatherings wore equal in importance to the best in the Dominion, the rme money being large and all tho finest athletes competing. Durmg the last few years, hoivever, the club has been on th« down grade, and a loss of over JIOO hr.s been made on the last three meetings, notwithstanding that the prizemoney and expenses have been, curtailed very considerably. At the annual meeting the other evening the report presented showed -that at the commsneoment of the year there had, been a credit balanco of £33 Os sd, w iiich had b°en charged to a debit balance — the total loss iov~ the year being £44 Is Bd. The general opinion of those present was, that the chief cause of the falling off was the greater attractions on IJoxing Day, and that in order to carry on. it would bp necessary to reduce the amount of prize money offered.' It was also thought it would be necessary to change the date. It was decided to leave it to tho committee to decide the date of the next meeting.
