COMMONWEALTH DEFENCE BILL

LONDON PRESS OPINIONS. Press Association.— Telegraph. — Copyright. LONDON, September 23. The Daily Graphic, commenting on the Commonwealth Defence Bill, says it is of so noble a . plan and arising out of so generous and worthy an aspiration that it is almost impertinent to praise it. The Manchester Guardian says the effect of the arrangements made at the Colonial Conference in London is to diminish our potential strength in Home waters by one cruiser Dreadnought. The Manchester Guardian deprecates the Federal Minister for Defence resting his case on the new arrangements of the party, at any rate on the great naval superiority of Japan in the Far East compared with Britain, and remarks: "We should be very sorry to think Australia is going to have a naval bogey of her own, and make a Germany of Japan."
