ARBITRATION COURT.
Bakers' Award
(Per United Press Association.) WELLINGTON, June 10. Mr. A. Stubbs has received the Court cf Arbitration's Award in regard to the dispute that arose between the Wellington Operative Bakers' Union and thirty employers whose premises are situated in Wellington and the suburbs. The Award provides that the ordinary working hours shall be forty-eight per week. The hours for starting are to be not earlier than 6 a.m. on Tuesday, Wednesdays, and Thursdays, 4 a.m. on Mondays and Saturdays, in cases of emergency and on days before and on holidays the starting time is to be agreed upon between the foreman and employer. If overtime is worked time and a quarter is to be paid for the first three hours and time and a half afterwards. The holidays are Christmas Day, New Year's Day, Good Friday, v Easter Monday, Sovereign's Birthday, and Labour Day. The proportion of apprentices is' to be one to each journeyman, but not more than three apprentices are to be allowed in one shop. The period of apprenticeship is to be four yealiis -with throe months' probation. Provision is made for tjie employment of TTnder-rate workers. Females are not to be allowed to manufacture goods in a bakehouse or do any hot plate work, but may bo employed in packing and finishing small goods and cleaning fruit. The minimum rate of wages per week is to be: Foreman or first hand ,£3, second £2 10s, table hand £2 ss. Jobbers are to be paid not lees than 10s per day of eight hours, or £2 10s if engaged by the week, and if a jobber is employed as a foreman he is to be paid a foreman's wage.
