WANGANUI EAST.
Mr John Jones was re-elected unopposed for the Mayoralty of Wanganni East. This will be Mr Jones's third term of ioffice, he having successfully contested the two previous elections held.
For the eight seats at the Council table there are 14 nominations, including six of the retiring councillors. Mr H. V. Duigan is not seeking re-election, while we understand Mr W. T. Benefield's nomination was received too late for acceptance. The candidates nominated are: — Messrs F. H. Allen, A. Burton, H. Christie, J. F. Holloway, G. W. McCaul, and J. O'Leary (retiring councillors), and Messrs T. M Higsrie, F. H. Hill, E. Neilson. A. Talbotj A. Thomson, C. H. Walker, E. Walpole, and W. N. Willis.
The polling will take plaec on Wednesday next, between the hours of 9 a.m. and 7 p.m., in the Council's office, Wanganui East, and near the north end of Shakespeare's Cliff.
