CANTERBURY CONCILIATION COUNCIL.

m > (Per United Press Association.) TIMARU, April 2. The Conciliation Council met at Timaru yesterday afternoon to hear the Canterbury general labourers' dispute. Mr Pryor, representing the employers, pointed out that, owing to an error on the part of the Clerk of Awards, the formalities in connection with the citation of the parties had not been complied with in terms of section 3 of the Industrial Conciliation and Arbitration Amendment Act, and the Council consequently had no jurisdiction. The Commissioner, Mr Triggs, agreed that this was so. Mr Pryor said that an award N was desired for South Canterbury only, and suggested a conference of local representatives, but Mr Paterson, secretary of the Union, refused to consider this, and the Council adjourned sine die.
