(Per United Press Association. ) GISBORNE, March 23. Replying to an addro.s presented at Tuparoa, His Excellency tiie (governor said: it would be an insult I<> talk about loyalty alter having lived ior yeara amongst them. Many young men from this Dominion had fought for the King, and Sir Joseph Ward had cabled the Imperial Government offering a first-class battleship costing one million and a quarter pounds. New Zealand's loyal offer would be talked of over the world (cheers). He took th* opportunity of informing- them of the pfler, and as representative of the King he spoke of their loyalty. He knew they would all stick together to support tho Empire. Hi* referred to New Zealand 'a- loyalty in being the first to offer assistance in the Boer var. He had to thank the sea for being calm, hs supposed because he had called his son Kiwa. Luncheon then took place in the store shed which was beautiftally decorated.
