NEW YORK, November 18. Popular demonstrations in favour of free Schools occurred on the islands of St. Pierre and Miquelon. A thousand" inhabitants, after parading the streets carrying American flags, threatened a movement for annexation by the United States. The Governor, in a conciliatory speech, promised to submit the matter to the French Government, since the police of the islands is insufficient to suppress disorder.
