THE BURNS-SQUIRES CONTEST
FRIDAY AND SATURDAY
Messrs McMahon and Carroll, who, in conjunction with Mr. Edwin Geach, secured the world's rijrht of cinematographing- the now historic encounter for the heavy-weight championship, succeeded in obtaining a reproduction of the event, which is said to be realistic in the last degree. Two nights after the actual battle it was re-fought, by medium of the biqgraph, uuon the same spot — the "stadium" — before an audience of upwards of 7000 persons. The Wellington Evening Post, referring to the exhibition of the entertainment in that city, says: — "Realistic biographical pictures of the Burns-Squires Jight at Sydne" are drawing crowded audiences to the Theatre Royal each evening. Those present follow every movement of the combatants with the greatest interest, and at times approach the enthusiasm of the audience at a real contest. A fine collection of miscellaneous pictures including- an illustration of the heroic finish of the Italian athlete Dorando. in the Stadium at the FrancoBritish Exhibition, is also shown." Bill Squires who accompanies the organization, will appear in person and give an interesting exhibition of boxing and punching- the ball and other exercises. The season which is restricted to two nights, commences at the Opera House on Friday evening next. The Box plan is at T ones and Sons'.
