OTAGO DEFEATS SOUTHLAND.

DUNEDIN, October 3

A football match between Otago and Southland, under Northern Union rules was played here to-day. The home team contained no representative players but six who took part in senior inter-club matches were in the team. A high wind interfered somewhat with the pl a y« t> ut the game was fairly interesting. The Otago forwards w-ere superior to their opponents, but tlie L Southland backs were better than those on the home tdde. The game resulted in a win for Otago by 11 points to 8. For the winners tries were scored by Harrhy, Bryant aud Walker, one being converted. The Southland score consisted or tries by Burgess and Burrows and a goal from a mark ~by Reid.
