THE WESTPORT PERJURY CASE
Death of a Witness.
(Per United Press Association.) HOKITIKA, September 28.
John Pearce, a witness for the defence in the Westport perjury case, died rather suddenly at the Cafe de Paris Hotel about 9.30 this morning. He had been drinking for some time, and a doctor was called in last night, intending to remove the patient to the hospital to-day, but when he was being dressed he suddenly expired. He had been suffering- from miners' complaint.
