WANGANUI TROTTING CLUB.

A general meeting of the. Wanganui Trotting Club was held in the Rutland Hotel la6t evening, a large number being present. Mr F. C. Faber was voted to the chair, and in his opening remarks stated that it was very pleasing- indeed to see such a large and representative attendance. It augured well for the success of the new club, when co much interest as had been evinced was forthcoming. The Chairman also a explained that satisfactory replies had been received by the secretary to . the deputation, who had waited on the Wanganui Jockey Club and Racecourse Trustees in connection with the use of their tracks, etc. The trustees had granted the Wanganui Trotting Club the use of the track proper for racing purposes and given their permission to the club to form a track of their own. The deputation was to .wait upon the committee of the Wanganui Jockey Club at their next meeting, and request the use of the lattpr's appointments, and it was fully'anticipated that the request would be favourably considcted. The Chairman read a number of apologies for absence, including one from the Mayor. NEW MEMBERS.— About 30 new members were enrolled, making the total membership about 100.

ELECTION OF OFFICERS.— The election of officers resulted as follows: — Patron, Hon. Jas. Carroll; president, Mr C. E. Mackay (Mayor); vice-presidents. (Messrs F. C. Fabcr, W. R. Tuck, and J. G. Barthorp; committee — Messrs W. AynsIcy, J. Brownlie, W. Ashton, C. Giesen, W. Finlay, W. L. Young, J. Kennedy, C. G. Young, A. McFarlane, R. McKinnon.. J. G. Swan, and G. Ross; treasurer, Mi G. Spriggens; solicitor, Mr C. E. Mackay.

SLVREIARy.— It was resolved that applications be invited for the position ol secretary.

BANK.— It was decided thnt the National Bank should be the club's bankers.

APPOINTMENTS— The committee wen empowered to appoint a iudge, handicaprer, starter, time-keeper, clerk of course, etc.

INAUGURAL MEETING.— Much dis onssion took place a& to the most suitable day on which to hold the inaugural meeting, a suggestion which met with general' approval being that the meeting should be held on the day prior to the sculling race for the world's championship, early in December. The matter was left in the hands of the committee to arrange. A vote of than ks to the chair concluded the meeting, which was characterises throughout by much enthusiasm, and there is every reason to believe that the Wauganui Trotting Club will have a successful future.

A fog of unusual density settled ovei the town and district lat3 last night and remained tilt well into this morning when it wns succeeded by bright, brisk weather. Many other places in the Dominion reported heavy fogs this morning, but the conditions on the whole were good, except at Manukau and Hokitika. where there were passing showers. Canterbury and the northern portions of this island were overcast with clouds. The glass ranged from 30.24 at Auckland to 30.28 locally and at Wellington, and 30.20 at Dunedin. The temperature was fairly low, running from 62deg. at Auckland tc 55 locally and 45 at Christchurch.

The third hae iust discharged a cargo of Newcastle coal Besides the sailing vessels there weh< alongside the wharf to-day five steamers, two of which, with general cargo, were comrelled, ov/ing to insufficiency of berthage space, to moor alongside of other steamers, and await until the latter were di-jcharged, before they could get a berth.
