WANGANUI AGRICULTURAL ASSOCIATION.
The first meeting of the new committee of the above was held last night in the Association's offices, St. Hill Street. Mr J. T. Sinclair, president, was in the chair, there being also present Messrs R. Russell, T. A. Bamber, W. K. McLean, F. Moore, T." D. Cummins, L. Bayly, A. 0. Hardy, R. Bond, J. Higgie, J. B. Murray, E. Whiteman, and H. Gillies.
Apologies for absence were received from Messrs J. H. Nixon, C. G. Russell, A. Varney, D. McGregor, J. Driver, E. A. Campbell, G. Smith, and J. H. Burnet.
MINUTES.— The inirfutes of the last meeting were read and confirmed.
GUARANTEE AT BANK.— Mr Nixon wrote re making arrangements for overdraft at the bank, and suggested a special meeting at a later date to decide the matter. — [t was decided to hold a special meeting in two weeks' time, at night, at the u&ual hour, to consider the matter.
NEW MEMBERS.— The following new members were elected to the Association : — Messrs J. Blair (Makirikiri), J. McNaughton (Patea), N. Miles (Makirikiri),
W. Mcßeth, C. Morsehead, T. Sanderson (Mangawhero).
RESIGNATION.— Mr W. E. Morgan forwarded his resignation as a member_ of the Association. — Received.
. GRAND MARSHAL.— Mr T. A. Bamber was unanimously elected Grand Marshal for the coming Show, Mr Sinclair, the late Grand Marshal, having been appointed president.
DATE OF SHOW.— It was decided to hold the 1908 show on Wednesday and Thursday, 11th and 12th November, a week later than the Palmerston fixture.
CHIEF STEWARDS.— The matter of appointing chief stewards for the various schedules, and arranging for meetings of the various class stewards to arrange their portions of the programme, was left in the hands of the Grand Marshal.
REVISION OF RULES.— A sub-com-mittee, consisting of the president and Messrs E. A. Campbell, Cummins. Bayly, Moore, Higgie, R. Russellj G. Smith, and Bamber was appointed to revise the rules.
HOCKEY. — A communication was received from the secretary of the Hockey Association, stating the Association's failure to see in what way they had damaged the grounds. — The committee decided that the damage Would have to be repaired, and Messrs Campbell and Bond were appointed to go into the matter.
BLACK DEVON PlGS.— Messrs Slack Bros, wrote requesting the Association to include classes for Black I»evon piga at the nert Show. — Left to chief steward, pig schedule. CATTLE CATALOGUE.— Mr Exley, of Hawera, forwarded a recommendation for the cattle catalogue. — Received.
DOG CLASSES.— Messrs T. H. James and R. Bond, late dog stewards, wrote suggesting that the secretary obtain catalogues of all Kennel Club shows, when held, and forward same to local dog exhibitors prior to the show. Also that it was the intention of the stewards, if possible, to form a Wanganui Kennel Club, which might with advantage be attached toilie Wanganui Agricultural Association, and that they would be pleased to hear the Association's views on the matter. The advantages of this were, they thought, manifest to all kennel club exhibitors. — Matter left to the chairmaln and Mr Bond to report at next meeting.
HUNTERS' CERTIFICATES, CATERING. ETC. — The matter of hunters' certificates accompanying entries wa3 left to th« horse stewards to embody in their schedule, and it was decided to leave the catering regulations in abeyance till a fuhire meeting: The question of privileges for side shows was also discussed.
FLAGS.— The chairman reported that Mr J. n. Bnrnet had made an offer re .supply of flags, to save any further trouble in this matter at the next show, and that kc would see to the making of them. — Matter loft with Messrs Burnet and McLean.
SPECIAL PRIZE CANVASSING. — Messrs Bayly, J. G. Swan, Cummins, Bamhcr, R. Russell, Hardy, and G. Spriggens were appointed to canvass for special prizes for the coming show.
EXECUTIVE COMMITTEE.— The following were appointed an executive committee: — Messrs Murray, Nixon, A. Burnotr. Higgie, R. Russell, and the ex-offioio officers. GROUNDS COMMITTEE.— The chief
stewards of each section, with the Grand Marshal as chairman, were appointed the grounds committee. PRINTING COMMITTEE.— Messrs J. H. Burnet, Cummins, Nixon, and Hardy. FINANCE COMMITTEE.— Messrs R. Russell, Hardy, Nixon, A. Burnett, and T. A. Bamber. RECEPTION COMMITTEE.— Messrs R. Russell, F. Moore, Campbell, Higgie, Sinclair, Nixon, and Gillies. POULTRY SHOW.— The chairman, as requested by the Poultry and Cage Bird Association, asked for leave for the use of the poultry shed for their next show. — Matter left with the president. NEW MEMBERS.— The president urged on committeemen and present members the advisability of using every endeavour to increase the membership and thus help to wipe out the overdraft. COMMITTEES' CHAIRMAN.— Mr Bamber, as Grand Marshal, was appointed chairman of all sub-committees.
