A London correspondent, writing under date April 3rd, says: Mrs Ballance, widow of the late Hon. John Ballance, was a passenger for England by the Kaikoura. She is staying in London for the present, and will spend the summer in this country. Mr J. C. Scanlon, of Auckland, who has l)ecn appointed governor of the Wanganui gaol, has arrived here to take up his new duties.
