Deputation to the Minister of Customs.

A. deputation fron the Federated Master Builders' Aesociaiion waited on the Minister of Customs to-day regarding the high price «»f timbe-r, and asked that a strone export duty U* placed on kauri timber, and that the duty oh Oregon pine should be reduced or remitted. Tho Minister said he feared nothing cruld be done in regard to taking off tinduty on foreign timbers. That was a matter'for Parliament. The Government, however, could increase the export duty on kauri up to sa, if required. He thought Miwmiller? would have taken the hint when tho tariff was lramed, but instead therehad since beei two rises in price. Mr Millar, in conclusion, promised /sympathetic advocacy of the deputation's cause, if tl'c various points made were reduced to writ- J ing for consideration of the Cabinet. i
