HIGH COMMISSIONER'S WEEKLY REPORT.

WELLINGTON, March 30. The Department of Industries and Commerce has received the following cable from the High Commissioner, dated London, 28th March: — The mutton market is firm. Stocks of New Zealand mutton on hand are light, and small shipments are expected. Canterbury mutton is quoted at 4fd for light weights, 4|d for heavy weights ; other than Canterbury 4 l-8d for light weights, 3|d for heavy weights. There is a good demand for all classes of lamb, and surHies are increasing. Canterbury brands are quoted at 5Jd, other than Canterbury s^d. The beef market is quiet, but firm, and there is an increasing demand for the better grades. Hindnuarters are quoted at 3|d, forequartera at 2|d. The butter market is quiet, but steady,

and buyers 'ire holding back, expecting prices to go lower. There is a goqd local, but no speculative demand. Choicest New ff Zealand butter is quoted at Ills, Danish at 112s, Australian at 108s, and Argentine at 108s. The cheese market is steady, and therr is a better doniand. White makes arc quoted at 60s, coloured at 625. The hemp market is quiet, but rathe steadier, and heavy shipments are expected from Manila. Following are current ouotations: — Good fair grade, on spot, .£24 10s; fair grade, on spot, .£22; fair current Manila, on spot, ,£24 10s. April-Juno shipments are quoted as follows: — Good fair grade £23 10s : fair grade ..£2l 10s ; fair current Manila £23 10s. I*he cocksfoot seed market is firm owing to speculative demand. There are light etocks on hand, and it is reported that the cocksfoot seed harvest in New Zealand this season is light. There is no change m prices. The wool market is rather duller.
