CORRESPONDENCE.

The Value of Qroynftft.

TO THE EDITOR.

Sir, — Had the groyne been erected by Shakespeare's Cliff even a year ago the deep trench scoured out by the Campbelltown bank anfl under the bridge, would have been filled up long- since, especially had the dredge been made to aid for a few weeks in this important work. Thus the threatened Soutn pier of the bridge might have been made perfectly secure without further expense or anxiety. Any stonework placed on the left bank, without first erecting the groyne above mentioned, for its protection, would for certain be carried away ~ljy the firs! high freshet. If it be true that "with the denudation of the interior bush lands the freshets will become much higher and more sudden, then the days of the bridge might be numbered unless its floor be raised several feet. — I am, etc., , , OBSERVER.
