JUNIOR CUP. TECHNICAL SCHOOL v. WANGANUI
JUNIORS.
This match was commenced on Saturday and promisee' to be one of the most interesting matches of the season. Wanganui won the toss and sent their opponents in to bat on a first-class wicket. Reed and Naylor opened fo* the school ajjainst the bowling of Fitten and Park; Runs came freel, and several changes had to be made in the bowling. The innings closed for^ 118, Reed (56), Parker (20), and Naylor (10) being responsible for the majority of the runs. The wickets were obtained by Ring (3 for 5), Fitten (4 for 44), Park (2 for 31). Spurdle and Murchie opened the innings for Wanganui. Both men batted up to their usual form. The partnership look ed dangerous, but eventually Spurdle was beaten by a good ball from Miller. Murchie never gave a chance, eventually carrying his bat. The innings closed for 122, four runs in excess of the School. The chief scorers were Murchie"~"(44 not out), Spurdle (18), and Ring (14). The wickets were distributed as follows: — Reed 5 for 21, Miller 3 for 28, Naylor 2 for 31. The Technical School commenced their second innings by sending' Brennand and C. W. Naylor to the wickets. Both batsmen took advantage of the absence of Fitten and punished the bowling severely. Naylor was caught off Murchie at 12, and at call of time the score stood at one for 68, Brennand (41) and Parker (2), both not out. The match will be concluded on Saturday next. The following players will represent the Wanganui Polo Club in the match against Manawatu, to be played in Palmerston North on Wednesday, February sth : — Messrs L. Strachan No. 1, G. McLeod No. 2, F. H. Jones No. 3, ,and L. Higgle No. 4.
