WAITOTARA CtJUNTY COUNCIL.

1 The regular monthly meeting of the Waitotara County Council was held this morning. v Present — Crs W. Ritchie (chairman), C. G. Rueeell, A. Morrison, S. Handley, G. Mullins, J. T. Walker, G. Mitchell, J. Dempsey. AMBULANCE. — The chairman was appointed the Council's delegate at the conference of local bodies re an infectious diseases ambulance. BOOTH.— Mr W. S. Dustin'e offer of .£1 for use of land for a refreshment booth at the champion -sculling match was accepted. ROAD. — Mr N. Fitzherbert drew the Council's attention to the state of the road between the main road and Mosstown. — Resolved that the Council has no funds to spare for this road. GATE. — Resolved to remove the gate from across the River Bank Road at Mr Earle's boundary. BRUNSWICK LlNE.— Letter from the Roads Department offering to exempt tho Brunswick Line from section-" 117 of the Public Works Act, 1905, if 40 chains from the River Bank was made a chain wide. — The offer was accepted. GRAVEL SHOOT.— A letter from the Railway Department explaining its position in regard to taking gravel from the pit at Aramoho was received. — The chairman Baid the Department evidently did not recognise the shoot a-s belonging to the Council and was taking advantage of a technicality. MOWHANAU.— Messrs J. H. Burnet, J. Wells, T. Sparks, B. Hood, and R. Russell, representing thie Mownanau Domain Board, waited on the Council with several requests re Kai Iwi Beach, in answer to ( which it was agreed to put up a finger post at the Westraere corner of the main road, and that the Council give .£25 towards forming the road through the township to the beach, the Board agreeing to give <£15 and Mr Russell finding the material for the culverts. ACCOUNTS.— Accounts amounting to JJ457 3s 4d were passed (for payment. FOREMAN'S REPORT. The foreman's report, the recommendations contained in which were adopted, stated that the conditions of the roads was anything but satisfactory owing to the dry weather, while, owing to the scarcity of suitable labour, very slow progress was made with works. On the Rangitatau East Road the formation was practically completed past Bayley's house,' and the metalling would be commenced forthwith. Slow progress was being made with the gravelling of the Kai Iwi Beach Road, owing to the' scarcity of men. River Bank Road: Owing to erosions of the bank necessitating repairs and improvements, the gravelling of the whole length of road could not be completed at present, but as soon as these defects are remedied gravelling will be proceeded with. There are some 43 chains to do. — Plans and specifications should be prepared for improving the Parekama Road, and tenders called, also tenders for putting in a drain on the Kaikokopu Road. The foreman also recommended the celaring of noxious weeds off several of the roads.
