SYDNEY, February 3.
The Rev. Thomas Bird, Methodist Minister, committed suicide in King's Park. Ho firet swallowed strychnine, and then shot him6olf. He was a witness before the Royal Commicsion into the Illingworth land scandals. His connection with the matter rose from his purchasing a property from Illingworth, on which the latter obtained a loan from the Treasury, in the name of "Dunning." There was no suggestion of dishonourable conduct on the Rev. Bird's part, but the notoriety raised evidently preyed on his mind. He left a note, stating — "For a long 1 time I have wished to die. I am so disappointed at my own weakness. Men do as they like with me with money matters and my Conference, since 1901, has always opposed me."
