ATHLETIC CONFERENCE.

CPex United Press Association). WELLINGTON, February 1. A Conference of New Zealand Athletic Association Centres was held to-day, representatives being present from Southland, Otago, Canterbury, South CanterbutT anu Wellington. Mr J. H. Pollock, Chairman, in the course of his address, eulogised the work dime by the various Centres. He regretted thpt the Auckland Centre had not given etidence of activity since last conference, aa4 the fact that they were not represented* at to-day's conference ' was ominous. He uftfed that amateur athletic bodies should follow the footsteps of the Trotting Association, and relegate the making and amending of alt rules to a conference of Centres leaving the Council to act as administrators only. He paid a tribute to the New Gaming Act. Mr Coffey (Wellington approved (?) of th» Chairman introducing matters as a private individual, not relative to the meeting. X- motion by the Wellington Centre, that caps' and badges should be charged against the New Zealand Council, was carried.

A. motion was carried thatj in the opinion of the conference, the rule relating to the election of the New Zealand Council by Centres shall remain as at present, Council shall consist of nine members elected annually by the combined votes of the Centres," in place of the proposed new rule of the Association, "That seven members shall be elected by the Centres, and the Council shall then appoint two outside members as president and vicepreident."
