OUR VOLUNTEERS.

HIGHLAND RIFLES.

The last competition for the Hallenstein Cup was won by Vol. Devonport. The weather conditions were not of the best. A strong southerly wind, with a changeable light, prevailed during the day, which made shooting difficult to most of those engaged. Scores: — Vol. Devonport 70, Sergt. Andrews 70, Sergt. Armstrong 69, Lieut. Watson 67, Col.-Sergt. Ross 65, Vol. N. McGonagle 65, Vol. Tyler 63, Corpl. Hughes 61, Sergt. Langridge 60, Capt. McNaught 57, Vol. Margotts 57, Vol. Armstrong 55, Vol. Cross 46, Sergt. Chisholm 45, Sergt. Matthews 41. This week's competition will be for A and B Classes Challenge Cup and gold medals. Handicaps, will be arranged by Sergt.-Major Anderson, and will appear in our next issue.

A welcome cool change was experienced to-day,- which was a refreshing change from the stifling heat and muggy atmospheer which has lately prevailed. A shower of rain fell early this morning, but though the sky was very overcast all day no more rain fell. It looks, however, as if rain were not far off.
