Statement by Mr, Asquith
LONDON, January 31. Mr- Asauith informed a National Union
and Women's Suffrage Societies deputation, headed by Mrs Henry Fawcett and Lady Frances Balfour that the question of women's suffrage was not prominently before the electorates last , election. The Government was unable to sacrifice any urgent measures entrusted to them for the purpose of initiating such a great change. Its initiation by this Parliament would not be justified even if the Cabinet were unanimous on the question, which it was not.
