Cattle.
It was a remarkable coincidence that the number of entries in the cattle section this year totalled exactly the same as last year, viz., 157. The figures were as follows : —
It will be Been that there was a falling off in Shorthorns, Herefords, and dairy cows; but the other classes made evens. Herefords showed the biggest percentage of shrinkage, but the Ksi lwi exhibitors — Messrs G. F. Moore and G. M. Currie — were again prominent with this 'breed. Messrs Bayly Bros, have dropped out this year and Mr Donald Robs has entered the lists against Mr Moore in the cow class. Messrs H. G. Gibson and Dalziell Bros, were again prominent in the Shorthorn section, and Moore Hunter's estate also had several entries. Mr Gregor McGregor and the late Mr John Peat's names were amongst the absentees this year. In grade cattle Messrs H. G. Gibson and Dalziell Bros 1 , had between them 14 out of the }7 entries. Mr J. J. Campbell had half the entries in Polled Angus, Mr Boyd McGregor four, Mr C. G. Russell two, and Mr Handyside one entry, being the other exhibitors. The competition in Holsteins was exclusively between Mrs Donald and Son and Mr Newton King, and each had six entries. Mr Robert Ross and Mr Harre monopolised the Ayrshire class, but the Jersey and Alderney cattle brought out much more competition.
