The House met at 2.30 p.m. LABOUR DAY.
The Premier gave notice that he proposed to give the House a half-holiday tomorrow — Labour Day.
QUACKERY PREVENTION
The Committee to which was referred the Quackery Prevention .Bill recommended that the Bill be not proceeded with in its present form, but valuable recommendations were made.
LAi\D LAWS AMENDMENT BILL.
The House then went into Committee on the Land Laws Amendment Bill.
At Clause 3 — after the passing of this Act no Crown land shall be leased by way of a lease in perpetuity, but all Crown lands which might have been leased under the principal Act, or under any other Act, may be leased by way of a renewable lease, under provisions hereinafter contained.
Mr Mills moved an amendment to strike out the word "No" before "Crown."
A lengthy discussion ensued, and, on a division, the amendment was negatived by 40 to 20. The House adjourned at 5.30 p.m. The House resumed at 7.30 p.m. Mr Allison moved an amendment to insert after Crown lands "shall be disposed of under occupation and lease with right of purchase."
After a protracted discussion the amendment was negatived by 45 to 20.
Further clauses having been dealt with, progress was reported, and the House adjourned at 12.5 until 7.30 on Wednesday.
