THE SUFFRAGETTES.
Disorderly Scenes.
Press Association.— Telegraph.— Copyright. LONDON, March 21. The Women's Social Political Union held a meeting at Caxton Hall, those present including a large contingent of Lancashire cotton operatives, in shawls and clogs. The meeting condemned the Government's attitude towards Mr Dickinson's Bill, and summoned Sir Henry Campbcll-Banncrman to legislate on the linos of his own speech. Lady Haberton volunteered to lead a deputation to hand Sir Henry CampbellBannerman the resolution. . The police broke up the procession in?« groups of twos and threes. Soon 500 extra constables assembled at the House of Commons. Great trouble was experienced in resisting th^ most determined series of disorderly attempts ever made to enter the precincts. Numerous skirmishes were unavailing, rushes leading to the arrest of small batches. The police showed the utmost forbearance and sought to restrict their duties to preventing anything in the nature of a combined demonstration.
