N.Z. LOAN AND MERCANTILE COMPANY'S REPORT.

The usual monthly sale of wool, ekins, hides, tallow, etc., held by the New Zealand Loan and Mercantile Agency Company, Limited, Wanganui, took place yesterday (10th January). The catalogue comprised 50 bales and 100 bags wool, 800 sheepskins, 200 hides, and a quantity of tallow, horsehair, etc. Wool was keenly competed for at prices well in advance of last sale's rates, and a very satisfactory clearance made. Sheepskins thoroughly reflected the advance recorded in London at the -sales recently, and prices were consequently to id per lb higher for all good quality crossbred and fine crossbred. Hides were firm at recent rates, but do not show any appreciable advance in price. Tallow made equal to last sale's rates, and was well competed for. We had a considerably larger attendance of buyers than usual, and the chairman of the Buyers' Association took the opportunity of congratulating us upon the manner in which we presented our catalogue for their inspection. He remarked that hides offered at our Wanganui sale were shown more attractively than in any other selling centre of the North Island, and that such care and attention on the part of the selling company undoubtedly elicited the best offers they were in a position to make for produce offered for sale. We quote as follows : —

"Wool.— Fine crossbred, lOd to lOJd per lb; medium, 9Jd to 9Jd; coarse, 9d to 9Jd; dead wool, 8d to 9d; lambs', B£d to 9^<l ; bellies, 5Jd to 7d per lb ; pieces and locks, 3|d to 64d; crutchiugs, ssd to frjd per lb. Sheepskins. — Fine crossbred, 9}d per lb; coarse, BJd to 9Jd; lambs', 7sd to B£d; super, dead, 7£d; hoggets, 7sd; dead and broken, 6}d to 7Jd; salted pelts, 2s 8d to 2s lOd; lambs' pelts, woolly, 3s Id to 4s. Hides. — Average quality ox hides, s}d to 6 l-8d per lb; cow hides, 3fd to 6d; no prime hides offering; calfskins, 6Jd to 7^d per lb; damaged and slippy, 3d to 5Jd ; weaners, si{d to 6Jd. Tallow. J224 10s to j;25 5s per ton; in tins, 12s 6d, 17s, and 22s 6d per cwt. Horsehair, ls 3d per'lb. Cow taiU, ls 5d per dozen. Next sale on February 10th.
