(Per United Press Association). CHRISTCHURCH, January 4. The New Zealand Educational Institute continued its sittings to-day. Mr C. D. Hardie moved as an amendment on Mr Gibbs' motion, "That the Inctitue desires to enter an emphatic protest against the all too prevalent notion that success in examinations is in .itself an end and not a means to higher ends. It discountenances all such methods of coaching or preparations for competitive examinations as fail to pay regard to the moral and physical, as well as to the mental well-being of children and the Institute is of opinion that the number of 'competitive examinations ought to^Yte reduced." The amendment was carried as a substantive motion by 34 to 13.
