The Papakaio Murder.

Findlay Acquitted, (Per United Press Association). DUNHDIN, December 20. Mr. Hanlon spoke nearly two liourß in defence of Findlay, charged with the Papakaio murder, but called no witnesses. His nonor began to sum up shortly before the dinner adjournment. DUNEDIN, December 20. After a trial lasting two days and a half John Findlay was to-day found not guilty of the murder of William Hay Rennie at Papakaio on October 3rd. On leaving the Court Findlay was re-arre»ted by Detectives Bishop and Ward and charged that he did on the 26th September, at Oamaru, steal a gentleman's bicycle, valued at £18 10s, the property of Oates, Lowry and Co. He wan at once brought before Mr C. C. Graham, S.M., and pleaded guilty to the offence. The Magistrate took into account that the accused had been ten weeks in gaol waiting for the trial, and sentenced him' to fourteen day's imprisonment.
