SCULLINC.
Letters received in Christchurch from George Towns, holder of the world's sculling championship, who is training ~R. Arnst, state that the New Zealand is making excellent progress in his new sphere of sporting enterprise, and may make his debut in one of the handicap events* shortly. Arnst himself wishes to say that he is training harder than ever he has done in his life, and he is now going the full length of the championship course at "a very solid bat." Dick Arnst bumped into the Rye Bridge on the Parramatta a couple of weeks ago, and rolled out of his shell. This brought his total of capsizes up to five. He managed to swim ashore with his boat and get into her again, and resumed his row with nothing worse than a slightly bent rigger. These occasional duckings worry Dick but little, and he still plugs a«'ay with the hope of yet seeing the cham^ pionship on the horizon.
