WELLINGTON RACING CLUB'S MEETING.

(Per United Press Association). WELLINGTON October 20. There was beautiful weather for the concluding day of the Wellington Racing Club's Spring Meeting. There was a good attendance, and speculation was brisk. The principal event — the Pearce Handicap — was won comfortably at the finish by Ellerton, who had occupied a prominent position in the earlier stages of the race. Pawa, who annexed the Petone Hack Hurdles, finished with remarkable game- ' ness, having been badly staked at the three-furlong post, which necessitated stitches being put in the wound. Flotilla upset calculations in the Hutt Park Handicap by winning easily at the finish from Captain Shannon. Only thirteen tickets were on the winning double — Ellerton (Pearce Handicap) and Flotilla (Hutt Park Handicap) — the lucky investors receiving £115 10s for each pound invested. The amount invested on the totalisator, inclusive of £1669 on the dcnble machine, was £15,947, as against £8328 on the corresponding day of last year, making a grand total of" £27,500 for the meeting, as against £18,320 last year. Petone Hack Hurdles. — Pawa 1, Sardonyx 2, Liberator 3. Only starters. Won by a length, a big gap separating the second and third. Time, 2min 46sec. Dividend, £2 10s. Tararua Hack Handicap. — Intelligence 1, Kuku. 2, Aeolus 3. Aorangi, Hatley, Gold Guard, Hiro, and Grand Poplar also started. * The issue was confined to Intelligence and Kuku, the former winning comfortably at the finish by a length and a half. Time, lmin 30 2-ssec. Dividends, £1 12s and £1. Juvenile Handicap. — Happy Maid 1, The Boyne 2, Prism 3. Only starters. A fine finish. Won by half a length. Prism was twelve lengths behind The Boyne. Time, 50 4-ssec. Dividend, £2 6s. Pearce Handicap. — Ellerton 1, Ghoorka 2, Frisco 3. Also • started — Zimmerman, Mystification, Clanchattan, Star Rose, Landwern. Zimmerman was left at the post. Ghoorka early assumed the lead from Mystification, with Clanchattan next. This order was maintained round the back, but at the four furlongs Mystification fell back. Clanchattan and Ellerton forced Ghoorka shook him off. The finish rewern made a forward movement, and appeared to have a chance, but Ellerton and Ghoorka shook him off. The finished resulted in favour of Ellerton by a length and a half from Ghoorka, with 'Frisco, who cam© late, in third position, two lengths away. Time, lmin 41sec. Dividends, £9 9s and £1 6s. Hutt Park Handicap.— Flotilla 1, Captain Shannon 2, De Witte 3. Scratched—. Landwern and Liberator. Half way down the straight Flotilla came with a wet sail and buried everything for pace. Captain Shannon was the next one, but had no chance with the leader, who won very easily by nearly two lengths. De Witte was third*and Medallist fourth. Time, lmin 29 2-ssec. Dividends, £14 .Us and £1 10s. Spring Trial Stakes.— Strathfillan 1, Truthful 2, Saga 3. Also- started— Hill Song, Highland Fling, and Kitchenmaid. A good finish. Won by barely a head. Time, linin 18 l-ssec. Dividends, £8 12s and £4 3s. Ruahine Hack Handicap.— Splendid Idea 1, Devonia 2, Te Uira 3. Also started — Sherlock Holmes, William, Pytchley, Lady Beresford. Splendid Idea rushed to the front in the straight, and henceforth the race was all over. Te Uira was a a length behind Devonia. Time, lmin 16 3-ssec. Dividends, £2 18s and 18s. Nainai Handicap. — Golden Gate 1, Marguerite 2, Ballarat 3. Scratched— Captain Shannon. Won all the way. Time, lmin 2sec. Dividends, £2 11s and £2 9s.
