GOVERNMENT MOTOR 'BUSES IN SYDNEY.
' A few months <iga -We printed some particulars of the financial results of running motor 'buses in Melbourne by the Victorian Government. We, are now, able to, . give similar information regarding the experience- of the New South Wales Government with, motor 'busds in Sydney. On Tuesday, July 10th, Mr Levy from his place in Parliament asked the Premier — (1) What had become of the motor omnibuses imported some time ago by the Railway Commissioners? (2) What had been the total amount of the loss' which this experiement entailed? (3) What had been the real caves of the, failure of the scheme? The Premier, Mr Carruthers, answered: — I am informed--(l) . The vehicles y are stored at the tramway workshops pending reply to a communication made : to the-Agent-General, requesting him- to . consult the makers. (2) from the date they commenced running, 4th December, 1905, to 29th May, 1906, when, they were taken off, the loss has beeu £}3M. (3) -The Vehicles have been found unsuitable in construe- 4tion for the traffic and roads on which they are required to -run. "*' It will be noticed that /the Premier in* his reply confined himself to answering the badly-drafted questions submitted 'to - him, and in coriseauence ■the'-inf<J©natioa J1 is far from being as complete as was desirable. It is st'll an open question -i whether or not the ioss stated inclndefi de-/ preciation of capital invested in tho carsjj
