EARTHQUAKES IN CANTERBURY.

CHRISTCHURCH, September 22.

Just before twenty minutes to eight this morning a slight shock of earthquake was exerienced in the city. A slight shock of earthquake was felt at Hanmer at 8 o'clock this morning.

It is reported that there was a shock of earthquake at Cheviot about 8 o'clock this morning. A boardinghouse was severely shaken and a large amount of crockery broken. As far as could be ascertained no other damage was done. The earthquake was also felt at Rangiora and Kaiapoi.
