IMPORTED COSTUMES & BLOUSES AT THE ECONOMIC.
("BY MURIEL.")
When one walks through this huge building it is possible to form only ' a vague idea of the enormous stock Messrs George and Kersley import. English tailor-made gowns or costumes are becoming extremely fashionable, and to see a lady in a very smart costume ie to at once wonder if it is an imported one. Some little time ago I remarked in my notes that alpaca was to be very much worn during the coming season. Well, that I was right is a certainty after seeing some very smart imported models in alpaca, or, as the new make is called, "new Sicilian alpaca." Some very ilegant ones in creme are in the Empire style, the yoke finished with smart gold buokle ;.iid buttons, the collar and cuffs strapped in vegetable insertion. These should make delightful wraps to throw over a stylish race frock. These coats can be had in all shades, including white and creme. Check muslins are to be a feature of the season, and a very fine sample is showing in the large centre window of the shop. It is a lilac check. The skirt has deep guaged flounce, and narrow bands of Valenciennes lace insertion, the bodice and elbow sleeves composed of tiny frills edged in the lace and deep V yoke of insertion. A blick and whit© check muslin naa lace cbimesette; the elbow sleeves had gauntlet cuffs of blue silk, finished in kilted muslin, lace motifs, ajid tiny silk buttons. The skirt slightly trained, was finished at the' hem with graduated tucks, and caught at the waist with wide pointed belt in blue silk. Another of the newest makes is the chiffon glace, and skirts in this make are sure to be popular. Messrs George and Kersloy are showing some in. all shades, profuse.y trimmed in lace and narrow ruchings. This should be one of the most becoming skirts a lady can wear. Silk muslins arc daintier than ever. There are some ready made ones (imported, of course), trimmed in French Valenciennes lace and insertion, the elbow sleeves finished with same. Summer tweejjs are in many new designs, 11 corselet skirt has a double-breasted bolero coat, with strappings of pale cloth, edged in white and green silk braid, and tiny enamel buttons. The flannel costumes have the Eton and new sac backs, are in all shades, and should make ideal knockabout gowna for summer. The real Irish linen embroidered blouses are really very beautiful, and as I suppose you know, all blouses (except for evening, dinner, or garden parties), will be in the shirt design. After seeing the nobby collars and cuffs one wonders how we have forsaken them for so long. In the better ones there are no two alike, which is such a satisfaction to a woman, I think. The new silk muslins are sure to be in great favour, because they are so light and dainty. While alpaca blouses are to be worn, crashes, voiles, and delaines aTe more elegant than ever. Visitors to town this week should visit tli- j Economic, where they will be sure to have a feast in colour and style of the newest and smartest new season's goods. To-mor-row I intend still further dealing with this fine shop.
