POLITICAL NOTES.

(From Our Parliamentary Special.) (By Telegraph). WELLINGTON, September 17.

Mr. Tanner's bill to limit totalisator permits provides that the Colonial Secretary shall not issue more than twothirds the number of totalisator licenses permitted during the year preceding the passing of the Act, and no permit will be available for longer than one day. No permit whatever shall be issued which allows the use of the totalisator at any place in the colony on any one of the thirteen days set forth in the schedule of the Bank Holidays Act, 1902. The Agricultural Department expended £5383 8s 3d last year in compensating Owners of diseased stock slaughtered in compliance with the Stock Act Amendment. Stock condemned comprised 2491 cattle, 49 swine, and one sheep, and half the market value was paid in nearly every instance. The sum realised from disposal of condemned carcases was £675. One horse and 128 cattle were destroyed, for which no compensation was paid.
