WELLINGTON. September 14. A conference of fruit grower* opened here this morning to disucss matters relating to the industry, and espicalty the . introduction of fruit peste per medium of California^ and Australian fruit. The conference also discussed the Reciprocal Treaty proposals relating to fruit and wine. A motion condemning the propos. Ed reduced ditty was carried unanimously, as being disastrous to the fruit-growing industry of New Zealand. It was decided to ask that the present penny duty period be extended to begin on December 14th, and on August 24th, so as to further protect New Zealand fruit growers. A motion urging no reduction be made in the wine duty was also carried.
