CHILD DROWNED AT KAI IWI.
It is our painful duty to record' a sad drowning accident which occurred in the Kai Iwi Stream yesterday afternoon, the victim being a little child of 4 years, named Frederick Dobson, son of Mr and Mrs Charles- Dobson, of Kai -Iwi. From particulars supplied to the police we learn that the little fellow was last seen about noon yesterday when playing with a brother at his home. Shortly afterwards the child's mother, who had been washing, went out to call him to dinner. Receiving no response, search was made, but no trace of, the little fellow could be seen. The father, who is a ganger on the railway line, and the police were communicated with, and further search was made, but proved futile. This morning a constable was despatched to help iv the search, and at 8 o'clock word was received at the police station that .the body had been found' in the Kai Iwi Stream, laying against a boulder, and about half a mile from the home. It is surmised that the child had fallen into the' stream from a narrow swing bridge which crosses it near the house. The coroner, Mr Stanford, S.M., left for Kai Iwi by the north express to-day, and will conduct an inquest at the home of the bereaved parents, to whom we extend our aiqeere .sympathy in their loss. A little O.T. PUNCH Ift a little water hot: A sound refreshing sleep. Tes, that is what I fot.
