PATHETIC.

The letter written by Mrs F. A. Pearson just before she wai found drowned in &awhia Harbour was intensely touching. The following .are. some ' extracts : — "My poor darling, — When you have read this I shall have passed beyond the reach of earthly trials and pain to. meet I know not what. I go out into the darkness of death. It is a cruel fat?, but there is no •kcape. Do you remember before I went South I often said if I did not get away from here I should go mad ; it was not madness but this. It has been coming on for a long time, not so ranch bodily illness but the mind, .diseased — hardly any sleep for months and such horrors. Lonir months ago I have' seen myself in dreams floating in the harbour. There is no escape from fate. I have known for a long time that I cannot get better. I think ■whatever is wrong internally ' has developed 1 -.thia mind disease. The doctor knew what a dreadful state I was in when he attended' me after Christmas. I believs he- thought then I was going out of my mind, . I knew mv^fate when I came home. Think how I have fought against it, all in vaiu. If there ia a spirit world I shall know what you are doing; don't mako it-* hard for me. ... I have fceaa. in to kiss the children a last goodbye. My' little darling moved and said' 'Doa't,' as I kissed her passionately. Oh, God, h ow cr,uejj that I must leave them. . .J . Gx>od-bye, my beloved ones, my loved ones. How dreadful for you all. No one mast blame you. You have done all that could be done and have ever been kind* and good. When I said good-night to you^ou little would think it was for rh« last time, and the last kiss. My darling, how cruel it is. If it were only a dream. Good-night. Good-bye."
