WELLINGTON. December 3.

Mr Edward Carding, for 35 years in tie Government service as a stamp printer, is dead. Deceased was born in Wellington in 1844.

A bathing mishap occurred this morning at Lvell Bay. While two young men named Ellis and Lake were bathing in the surf one of them lost his footing and was drawn into deep water. His companion went to his aid, but they were unaV.e to reach the shore and both were drowned.

On Saturday afternoon a steam pipe at the Electrical Syndicate's works exploded with a report that could be heard a mile away. There w>re three firemen on <luty at the time, and one was rather badly scalded about thp face. The violence of the explosion caused great excitement in the city for a time, and thousands of people rushed to the scene. J. Holmes, a clerk in the Treasury Dspartment, committed suicide thip morning by hanging himself. Deceased had bcoii in ill-health. An inquest is being held this afternoon.
