MELBOUBNE, December 4.
The southern portion of the State has been visited by the severest weather experienced for many years, and it is as bitter as winter. A. violent hurricane is raging on the coast. The ketch foam capsized off the the Gippsland Lakes entrance-. Tho crew wer<? sared. A fisherman was drowned at Port Fairy. The gale is now abating. Several suburbs of Melbourne are knee-doep in water.
