November 29.
The Premier has received a cable from tha Agent-General stating that a sensation has been caused in England by the publication of a pamphlet by Wall and Company, produce merchants, showing how butter from the Colonies is manipulated to tho disadvantage of the producers and exporters. He gives the following quotations from the pamphlet: — In butter manipulation millions are involved, and how the British public is cheated and His Majesty's Colonial subjects robbed? Itthen describes the process minutely, recommends that the Customs be empowered to refuse admittance, and confiscate butter not 'distinctly marked .with the Government grade and the mark of the country of origin, and advises that the Board of Agriculture be given power to prohibit the importation from countries where there is inefficient Government control and from foreign parts where there is reason to believe butter is frequently adulterated.
