WELLINGTON, November 27.
William Smith, who was found guilty of cattle- stealing on Friday last, was put forward for sentence- this morning. His Honor the Chief Justice refused to grant probation, and sentenced the prisoner to three months' hard labour.
CHRISTCHURCH, November 27.
The Supreme Court civil sessions opened to-day, the calendar being a somewhat lengthy one. Henry Croasdale was awarded «£365 12s damages against W. B. Cowlishaw, of Christchurch, solicitor, and Mrs Cowlishaw, for injuries sustained on the afternoon of December 23rd, 1904. Plaintiff was cycling along Victoria Street when ho was run over by Mrs Cowlishaw, who was on the wrong side of the road, and his leg was broken in two places. The case of P. A. Herman and the Christchurch Steam Laundry Co., Limited, v. P. Edminston, a claim in respect of machinery, was settled privately, plaintiffs accepting a sum of .£750 in settlement of their claim.
