ENTERTAINMENT AT WESTMERE.

A packed house greeted the Westmere Amateurs last evening, when they reproduced the comedietta "Furnished Apartments." The audience was most appreciative, • and thoroughly enjoyed the excellent evening's amusement provided. The comedietta was preceded by a first-class concert programme, beginning with a wellplayed overture by Miss Powell, which was followed by the song "Evening Pastoral," sung by Miss A. Ashton. Miss Burnett delighted the audience with her violin solo, and a song by Miss Powell won for her a decided encore. Mr E. Gilbey received a well-merited recall for his unique and clever violin playing. A double encore was given Mr H. Duigan for his comic song entitled "What's the Good," and Mr Charles Wixcey captivated the audience with\his clarionet solo, and received a well-deserved recall. The turn of the evening was evidently Mr Charles Forrest's. The audience gave him a hearty reception, and his clever card tricks and illusions brought down the house- again and again. Mr Forrest's tricks were now to his audience, some of them being most original, and they would have done credit to a professional. His illusion with ribbons and handkerchiefs was vociferously applauded, and ended a very clever turn. The different characters in the comedietta were excellently played by Mises E. and B. Taylor, J. Murray and McDonald, and Messrs M. Murray, H. Laird, A. Tawse, and J. Donald. Miss B. Taylor acted her part of thfc office boy to the life, her clover bye-play creating roars of laughted. Miss J. Murray also gained great kudos for her clever acting of the lady doctor. Messrs M. Murray and J. Donald were immense, their make-ups being very good. A dance was held after the performance, which was »greatly enjoyed by all. We are pleased to hear the Presbyterian Ladies' Working Guild will benefit to the extent of over £20 by the evening's performance.

Excursion trains will run to the picnic at Waikupa- on the King's Birthday. -
