(Per United Press Association.) WELLINGTON, October 20. The weather was wet and windy for the first day of the Wellington Racing Club's meeting. The attendance was not up to the average, and the course was very heavy. Tho double event tote on Wellington Handicap and Flying Handicap returned a dividend of .£65 7s to fourteen investors. The day's tote- receipts amounted to .£992, as against ,£8578 on the corresponding day last year. Results : — October Hurdles.— South Star 1, Taxpayer 2, Florrie 3. Scratched: Gipsy Jack. Won by half a dozen lengths. Time, 3min 33 l-ssec. Dividends, £3 4s and 14s. Shorts Handicap.— Medallist 1, Coxswain 2, Hinurewa 3. Scratched: Solution, Ballarat, Marguerite, St. Claimor, Veneer.
