The Town Bridge.
TO THE EDITOR.'
Sir,— l think the best way to ' get over, thei difficulty with the Town Bridge Would be to'puf row of cylinders^ on the lower-, side of- the . present pairs and bra.cc all fhtqe- together. Of course, the new cylinders ..would be put down the proper depth. required, .and need^npt necies-, sarily be as large- .in. circumference as a 'the present ones. Then there could be erected a footbridge %'ot 10. feet" wide. vThe present footway % is^ no moire use or credit to th,e,. toym: thap^jf the Avenue footpaths w^ere \£lw, , same '.width.' A ten-feet fo'otbridg6" would' greatly relieve 'the cartway (srhicl},','aß eyery, on J6J 6 knows, is absurdly narrow for.,,presfen¥ traffic.). When the third cylinders .we're put in the ' bridge could be raised 4"fee£ pr whatever is required, and the turntable bolted " to the other part, as no doubt the bridge will never be opened again., Something must be done towards protecting the bridge, or it will go sooner, or -later in a big flood. — I am, ■ etc.,' ' ' ■ PUTTKI.
