AUCKLAND v WANGANI3J.

The Auckland team,'' wjiicli defeated Taranaki -yesterday, qnd plays at Wellington on Satiirday, passed through Aramoho on their" way to the Empire City by to-day's mail train/ That the team is a very strong one may be gathered from the fact that it proved successful yesterday at New Plymouth, and the local boys will have to train hard if they want to win on Tuesday next. A practice called for the other evening was attended by only a few of the members, and these few were those who- stand in the least need of training. Owing to mismanagement on somebody's part there was no ball at the hall, so that the practice (?) really ended in a farce. This is not creditable to those responsible, and it is high time that more businesslike methods were adopted in regard to the management of' practices. Another practice is called for this evening, when it is hoped all the town members of the team will attend. Unless the players go on to the field on Tuesday with the confidence begotten of the knowledge that they are in good condition and that as a team they will be able to play with combination, they cannot hope for success. The men realise this, and are doing some training, but practice together is the great thing needed. That the Wanganui team is a really good one, and will give the visitors a very hard battle next Tuesday I have no doubt, but they will not need to throw away any chances, and will require to show more dash than they did last Saturday. It will be a hard game from start to . finish, and if our boys are prepared to see it through they have a chance of winning, as they can play as good football' here as anywhere. It is only a want of combination and dash that has led to their defeats on many occasions, ,and they must -see to it that this will not also be the case with them on Tuesday.
